How to Crack GATE-Sandeep GATE - A.I.R 5
Sandeep
GATE: this is the exam of basics. So there is no need of remembering lot more formulae etc. If you have the interest to learn subject then only u can get good results. Not by learning the shortcuts and formulae. Try to understand the concept behind the subject and gradually develop interest in it. If we take any previous Gate paper of any branch there is no need to remember lot more formulae, if you have the concept then you can crack it. I don’t say you need not learn a single formula; you have to remember some but not all.
So now how to learn basics. Here you need guidance, first pick the right book for the particular subject and try to make your own notes and try to understand the concept behind it. If you can’t make it after first reading read till you understand. This will take lot of time, so better if you start preparing right from the beginning of engineering. But if you are already in final year, don’t worry .still you can crack it, if you come up with a right strategy (mine is the same case, I realized the value of time at the end of third year and I cracked GATE06. this is all because of time management and right strategy). Do not buy any material except brilliant series because there will be print mistakes which will misguide you (even in brilliant series also there are mistakes but less than others). If you are taking coaching then don’t miss a single class and don’t be shy to clarify your doubts.
So once you have concept then try to solve some problems using various books related to u’r subject. Then try to develop some shortcuts on your own. You need a lot of research here. Try to note down how many questions being asked from a particular topic and what type of questions are those and some may be logical , some may be direct and some indirect. So gather all the information required from previous papers. If you are taking coaching that will help you here.
Now the most important thing finding the right strategy to write the exam that is where to start and etc. this cannot be told by any one, you need to develop your own strategy which is comfortable to you. Here you need some mock exams. So you have to find some coaching centers and register for exams and try to develop the habit of following the right strategy which will suit you. This is the most important thing because you may not get time to solve all the questions (solving all the questions is almost impossible and it is not at all necessary and you all know that there are negative marks also). So picking the right questions and managing your time is very very important. My suggestion is start with two mark questions and I warn you that don’t stuck up with any single question for a long time. Then go for four marks questions and then one mark questions, after completing all the easy questions once again try to solve tougher questions following the same strategy, 2 then 4 then 1.and at last I want to tell you one more thing. If you follow your plan and work hard then any one who can understand the concept correctly can crack GATE. Don’t compare your self with others try to put cent percent efforts. All the best for all the GATE 07 aspirants. Any types of queries are invited.

Hello Sandeep,
Thanq for the guidelines. I just wanted to know whether you attended any coaching classes and if yes which one? I heard that the CSE discipline GATE exam is the toughest of all. Is it true? I also see my seniors cramming their heads in the books and studying for 7-8 hrs a day. Is it of any use? Frankly, I can’t do that much of preparation.
Please reply.
