GMAT- 590 ( Q48, V23)
coremaniac
Well friends here goes my GMAT exerience , well i know the score which i have achieved is not very good but noting that the time i got to prepare for the whole of GMAT was just 12 days , I think I have performed quite well and if in future I do hope to retake this exam ill be in a better position. Well here goes my experience and my 2 cents of contribution towards all the potential GMAT takers.
I booked my date for GMAT as 21st June 2006 on 3rd of June. After that it took me a week to get in my application and after that I started with my preparation. Since I was already well versed with Quant due to CAT , I decided that I will concentrate more on Verbal rather than Quant. The books which I used were all Kaplan. I had got a Kaplan 2005 book and also a Kaplan Verbal Workbook. I started with one of m weekest sections that was grammar. I builkd on it and the verbal workbook helped a lot. Meanwhile I had taken a diagnostic test and scored a 575 in it.
After finishig of with Grammar for a week and getting a hint about the sentence correction part of GMAT ,i moved on to one of my favourite sections that was Critical Reasoning, i started with that and dearly practised it for the next 3-4 days . Meanwhile I used to do Reading Comprehension by doing one comprehension a day.
After that I started taking Computer based tests and used to do small excercises of Sentence Correctionsince it was one of my weakest parts in the verbal section of GMAT. The following were my scores of these exams.
Diagnostic- 575 (Q 50, V 16)
Princeton- 510 ( Q 37, V 27)
Power Prep-1: 620 (Q 47, V 28)
Princeton- 680 ( Q 48, V 37)
Power Prep 2 : 580 ( Q 42, V 27)
Actual GMAT: 590 (Q 48, V 23)
So basically I found that the powerprep is the nearest to your actual scores .
So finally I will conclude by saying that the amount of days which I could get for the preparation of GMAT was something which affected me. So people always plan out GMAT in such a way that you have atleast 2 to 2 and half months for preparation.
