PLACEMENTS AT IIM-LUCKNOW
There is a palpable sense of elation and pride at the Indian Institute ofManagement, Lucknow, (IIM-L) these days. It is around this time junior students tread their first steps towards a high-flying career. And this year, they came out with flying colours when the summer placements saw a record 126 offers made in ‘‘slot one’’, said to be the highest across all IIM campuses in the country.
In fact, the entire junior batch of 290 students was placed in the most preferred companies for challenging summer assignments and international stints with stipends ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 80,000 per month. Getting every student a job of his/her choice in the area of preference and also fulfilling aspirations, is indeed a stupendous task, demanding a broad recruiter base offering diverse profiles. But all was achieved in just three days.
This year’s summer placements saw an upsurge not only in the traditional banking & finance, consulting, marketing and IT jobs but also in specialised areas like supply chain consulting, international operations and the KPO/BPO sector. ‘‘Though one would say that a booming economy had a role to play in this, getting offers in areas like International Operations from Tata Motors was an outcome of the clear focus and quality of the students of this campus,’’ said students in IIM-L placement cell.
Key recruiters in this summer included DSP Merrill Lynch, Avendus Adviors, Edelweiss Capital, Citibank, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, American Express, Bank of America, KPMG, Accenture, Microsoft, E&Y, Pricewaterhouse-Coopers, GE, TAS, P&G, HLL, Cognizant, ITC and AIG. The new participants for this year were Chapman Hedge Funds, SAP USA, Marsh and McLennan, Calyon Bank, Prudential Knowledge Services, L’Oreal and KSA Technopak.
The agri-business management students also had a highly successful placement season with students securing internships in notable companies such as ITC, Murugappa Group, ICICI, NCDEX. Into its second year, agri-business students are in demand by companies suggesting glorious times ahead for them.
‘‘Successful summer placement this year have once again showed that IIM-L is one of the most favoured campus among Indian and multinational recruiters,’’ said students. ‘‘It also implies that IIM-L will have the strongest representation in leading corporate,’’ they added. The campus is now gearing up for lateral placements for the class of 2006 coming January and if the past trends are anything to go by, another landmark placement season is in the offing.
